as november draws to a close…

i’ve just received my first mosquito bite in about a month. this is something that i will for sure NOT miss when i leave hong kong.

on that note, tomorrow marks the last day of november. can you believe it!??? where has all the time been? this is also my last week of classes at CUHK. i am quite relieved. but then again, this also means loads of papers and projects and exams. ahh!

the good thing is, GOD is there as my strength and my rock. i’m not anxious, nor scared. i’m just thankful. :)

international day

i LOVE attending church in different countries…why?

being able to worship with brothers and sisters from across the globe has shown me the magnificent and majestic presence of God…the gimongousness…that IS GOD. words just can’t explain. That we’re able to worship together under one roof, in whatever language, with whatever actions (hands raised high, head bowed, knees bent, jumping around like crazy)…it just makes me nice and small, knowing that i am just one tiny piece in God’s universal church, in His kingdom. We all worship the SAME God…

Today was international day at KIBC in Hong Kong. Our church is comprised of people from all over:  Egypt, Liberia, Philippines, HK, USA, China, Canada, Pakistan… you name it! Then Phil. 2:9-11 was read in multiple languages…

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

It doesn’t matter where you come from, or what language you speak…God speaks across borders. Man, I’m SUPER excited to see what heaven has in store, to be in union with and be able to worship God forever with fellow brothers and sisters!!!!!!

God speaks

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your GOD is with you wherever you go.” (Josh. 1:9)

My heart thumps, palm sweats, voice quivers, and brain jostles around for words to say. I see an individual, eager to speak to him/her, rehearsing things I want to share with them about God…as I attempt to approach, I back away in fear. Why? Because I’ve forgotten my source of power and strength. GOD.

October 31st: Grandparents’ apt.
The sky’s getting darker as I sit with my grandfather on the couch. No more heart beating, voice quivering, brain jostling. I have no idea how these words have formed in a coherent speech, except that I keep asking God for help. Like an empty vessel, God fills me. Praise HIM for providing and strengthening. Praise HIM for HIS works.

I just ask you guys to continue to pray for my grandparents’ salvation. God is soo present in Hong Kong. It’s easy for me to forget that no matter how hard I try, I can’t changed their hearts. But I know God can. Thanks :)

pleasant

i wish there were more days like this: a Sunday afternoon inside Starbucks with my Bible and a cup of coffee. :)

in a crazy city like HK where life just never stops, moments like these are hard to come by ( didn’t even have to wrestle for a seat! ). makes me cherish them even more.

other odds and ends…

  • people in Hong Kong don’t say “bless you” when they hear someone sneeze. in fact, they’ll turn to look at you strangely, as you awkwardly turn away. it’s been hard suppressing the urge to say it when i hear “aaachoooo”
  • it’s happened on more than one occasion that after i comment or ask a question in cantonese, the other person (who is canto) responds in mandarin. either i need to speak clearer, or my canto is starting to sound more like mandarin. O_O
  • i can’t believe i’ve been here for almost 2 months. feels like i’ve been here for forever. and we’re already 1/2 way through the semester!
